Question: Hello. i have a question about surveillance camera system.?

(Posted by: Greg on 2010-03-05 00:51:32)

I am needing a Camera system that has a nice Night Vision Option that will record 200ft and clear to see at night. I have a small Mechanic Shop that I am having trouble with Thieves Jumping the Fence and getting in our customers Vehicles and stilling there belongings while were closed during the night. I am looking for or hoping to spend no more then $500.00 on a complete system. Anyone have any suggestions. I am a complete Newbie when looking for Surveillance Cameras. I have bought more Lighting to light up the Lot at night. Thank You For You Help.

The trouble will be trying to find any camera that will give you clear pictures at 200 feet, let alone at night. Forget all that crap you see the folks on CSI do with video, it is in the script, but not reality. You'll need high-end cameras to get anything useful at that range, and of course that means more money. A better option would be to use more cameras, spread out closer to the problem areas. A video showing a dark blur moving around proves somebody was in your lot, but doesn't help identify them. To get ID quality video, you have to have the camera a lot closer to the bad guy. Another thing to think about is that the IR illuminator cameras have one problem they don't tell you about... reflections. Those IR lights reflect off car windows and the like, just like a spotlight. Proper placement of the cameras and illuminators is very important. For a business lot, I think your budget is too low. It could be done, but you'd have to use cheap cameras, and all that will do is waste your money and time.

Have you thought of razor wire and / or a dog or two ? You're not going to get much for $500. And if the person is more than ten feet away from the camera, the footage is likely to be of no value.
